Chemtrade selected Dürr’s Ecopure®SCR system after a competitive review of commercial Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) offerings.
Chemtrade is the only on-purpose manufacturer of sodium nitrite in North America, which is produced at its Syracuse, NY facility. Sodium ion is a known SCR catalyst poison, making their potential pollution control solutions more challenging. Dürr addressed this by using specifically designed catalyst beds for the SCR that facilitate simple bed change-outs and are less susceptible to blockage by particulate matter. Control solutions and an operator interface provide the flexibility to automatically control NOx destruction under a variety of operating conditions while minimizing operator effort.
As the process enters the SCR system at a relatively low temperature, a heat exchanger/burner combination was incorporated into the system. The heat exchanger greatly improves the overall energy efficiency of the system while maintaining the small footprint Chemtrade required.
With the assistance of the Dürr Ecopure®SCR technology, Chemtrade has been able to reduce NOx emissions to the local environment by more than 90%, or more than 500 tons per year.
Dürr provided Chemtrade with a solution that was not only effective and efficient but gained them recognition from the State of New York for their efforts. This application again proves that Dürr Systems, Inc. is at its best when designing and engineering complete solutions that fulfill the client’s needs and desires.
