With 92 locations in 28 countries, Dürr is one of the world’s leading companies in the plant and machinery construction industry. Business with automobile manufacturers and suppliers accounts for about 65% of the Dürr Group's sales worldwide. Dürr, for example, plans and constructs turnkey paint shops and final assembly lines. It is also in this market segment that the business location in Radom has been successfully established for 25 years.
The company has grown continuously with its core business in the field of conveyor systems. "With 216 employees at present, we are regularly involved in large Dürr Group contracts all over the world," is how Dirk Bethmann, Managing Director of Dürr Poland, describes activities at the location. "Our conveyor systems are used to transport car bodies in automobile manufacturing fully automatically through the assembly and paint shop lines."
Focus on conveyor systems
Nowadays, almost all major automobile manufacturers use conveyor systems from Radom: The range varies from robust and sturdy skid/floor conveyor systems and pendulum conveyors for the paint shop to skillet platform conveyors, man-riders and electric suspended monorails in the final assembly process. The electrically driven trolleys for the RoDip E carriers used in the pretreatment process and the electrocoating process are also manufactured in Poland. In addition to the mechanical conveyor systems, electrical control panels have been produced and virtual commissioning has been carried out since 1997 in the recently expanded assembly shops. Overall, the portfolio ranges from planning through manufacturing and pre-assembly to commissioning and services.
At the same time, Dürr is the only system provider worldwide offering paint shop equipment and application and robot technology from a single source. With paint supply systems, atomizers, metering units and color changers, as well as the associated robot and control system technology, Dürr is the world market leader in the field of fully automated paint, sealer and PVC material application. In the future, Dürr will open up further growth potential in application technology with the new "Industrial Products" area. Along with the automotive industry, the focus will be on other branches of industry such as plastics processing, railroad car construction and shipbuilding, agricultural machinery technology, ceramics, wood and furniture production.
Great potential for industrial products
Dürr uses the products in these industries not just in its own project activities and plant engineering, but also sells them as individual components. Holger Beiersdorfer, Head of the Industrial Products business unit at Dürr Systems in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, sees in Poland "great potential for the new product range thanks to the small and medium-sized companies dominating a dynamic industry." Along with pumps for conveying water- and solvent-borne paints and highly viscous media such as sealants, adhesives and various coating materials, the range also comprises precise metering systems. These systems take care of the reliable supply of paint quantities and the automatic color change. In addition, Dürr offers the appropriate application equipment for every area of application. The paint spray guns are available in various technologies and variants.
In 2015, the Dürr Group, which has 14,200 employees, aims to achieve sales of €3.4 to €3.5 bn. In Poland, Dürr now has around 550 employees in various companies and divisions. Dürr Poland in Radom contributes to the Group success with 216 employees at present, and an annual turnover of over PLN 200 million.
